Name: Leonid Kovar
Alias: Red Star
Age: 18
DOB: 14 October
Place of Birth: Small village in northern Russia
Height: Roughly 6'3" or so
Weight: 210 lbs, all muscle
Eye Color: Bright green
Hair Color: Dark red
Skin Color: Pale
Status: Hero
Affiliation: Teen Titans
Powers & Abilities/Weaponry: Leo is quintessentially the perfect soldier, having amazing strength and endurance, as well as a certain impervity to explosive devices. He also has an amazing radioactive power, the destructiveness of which has yet to be fully fathomed, especially when focused. Though he has yet to realize, his near-sacrifice transformed him in a sense and gave him a few new powers, including the ability to fly.
Weaknesses: Being radioactively-based, Leo is generally quite unstable. Get him off-target and he may become enveloped in his own power, or else at least miss the mark and possibly hurt his own comrades. On that note, use them against him. Also, due to his massive size, he isn't exactly the fastest person in the world, if you catch my drift. And he is quite vulnerable if you catch him at the right time, as he is only beginning to control his old powers and discover the new ones.
History: Born an accident to a poor couple with six other children, it wasn't long before young Leo had to be given up for adoption because his parents just couldn't care for him. He matured very quickly in the orphanage, and by fifteen he was tall, streetwise, and secretly engaged to a girl named Maladi.
Around this time, looking for a purpose in his life, Leo enlisted in the army. He was upstanding and mature, and they were desperate, so he was in. However, he was not nearly as up to par as the other troops, boundless alacrity or not. They took note, though, of his emotional strength after Maladi suddenly died (which may or may not have been part of a government plot). A few military officials who happened to be neo-Soviets [if you will] came to the conclusion that lanky Leo was the perfect candidate for their secret super-soldier experiments. A series of tests were performed, transforming the young soldier into Red Star as we know him. However, neither the newly-endowed hero nor his "creators" knew what would come of it. This became painfully apparent as radioactive energy overtook Red Star's body--and with no one to control it, disasterous results ensued.
Ashamed, he exiled himself, thinking it the only way to keep others safe. He would live in total isolation, shedding energy safely when he needed to so that nobody else would be hurt. He lived this humble but lonely life for quite a while before a certain group of American heroes--and especially an alien girl--flipped his life over. After saving Starfire from the blizzard, he eventually let his defenses down around her and the two became fast friends. She gave him advice that would stay with him forever--or at least, as long as he could hold out. Her friends the Titans were slightly more hesitant to accept him, and pointed out that he was the source of a radioactive creature wreaking havoc in the locality.
Red Star ventured out of his self-imposed exile for the first time in what seemed like decades to help them and fight this horrible part of himself. He succeeded--but not before overloading for what he was sure was the final time. He cajoled Starfire into taking him out into space, where he would not harm anyone, even in his sacrifice. He allowed the power to leave his body...
...and he was still alive. After shedding the overload, an aura of energy lingered around him, creating a sort of bubble in which oxygen was still contained. Amazed, he floated around, eventually finding a rocketship preparing to return to Earth. The crew aboard the ship figured him for a fellow cosmonaut detached from his own ship, so they rescued him (and later found him useful in adding to the energy storage when there was a fear that they wouldn't make it through the atmosphere).
Soon after returning, he immediately got to work controlling--nay, embracing--his powers. This was in good time, as the Titans were rallying everyone they possibly could to defeat the Brotherhood of Evil--and after what theypretty much mostly Starfire did for him, he had to help them in return.
Personality: Leo is eager and loyal, but this is not quite so pronounced until you really know him. He is a quiet boy, reserved and mature beyond his years. Though emotionally guarded--stoic, even--he is kind and courageous, and even tries to be gentle. His self-esteem is not very high, and he feels guilty about things easily. He is desperately trying to express himself a little more, because he knows that when he bottles himself up, he eventually explodes--literally. That said, he is a good listener, though not the greatest conversationalist, and has a decent (if dry) sense of humor.
